I Want To Be Green

I Want To Be Green…Yes Green

There are numerous articles and features written about becoming “environmentally friendly”, most of which is tedious and boring to many people.

So is it possible to be a good friend of the earth, without going over the top and boring everyone to death with your “Green” exploits?

We have all seen the articles telling us how to turn off the lights, recycle the paper, cardboard, bottles……the list goes on and frankly most of it is common sense. We don’t need some council official telling us to flatten cardboard and remove any sticky tape.

Some of the instructions issued by local officials are really quite comical. Place paper in the blue bag…no envelopes dummy!

When does paper become cardboard? I mean when is thick paper no longer paper but cardboard? It’s a tough one.

The most amusing piece of advice this week from an “expert” (don’t you just love self styled “experts”?) was the brilliant idea to “back your car into the drive, so that in the morning you don’t have to manoeuvre the car to turn it round, whilst the engine is cold, thereby saving fuel. Yes really, that’s the advice of an expert.

Now if you have a nagging partner who is aware of this brilliant advice, beware. After you get home from work, said partner will inform you that you’ve parked the car the wrong way, you know you’re supposed to reverse into the drive. So off you go to turn it round in order to …..Save fuel?

Now saving the earth for future generations is highly commendable and should be encouraged but can we just have less of the nonsense and more really practical solutions. (Unless of course they’re amusing).

Practical idea of the year: Generate your own power. (Please stop laughing ) This is serious. There are several very good guides available complete with plans and blueprints which show you how to create your own power supply by building a windmill and homemade solar panels. The guides show you everything you need to accomplish this and save 80% of your energy bills (have you stopped laughing now).

The whole thing can be accomplished by anyone with basic DIY skills for less than $200.

Now that is a really practical solution to helping the environment and saving money.

Now is this paper or cardboard?

Now you know what you can do to save the planet and loads of money, click the following link to find out how you can save $40 of the recommended price of the best guide on the market Earth 4 Energy

This three-bladed wind turbine is the most common modern design because it minimizes forces related to fatigue.

Wind Power is the conversion of wind energy into a useful form, such as electricity, using wind turbines. At the end of 2007, worldwide capacity of wind-powered generators was 94.1 gigawatts.[1] Although wind produces about 1% of world-wide electricity use,[2] it accounts for approximately 19% of electricity production in Denmark, 9% in Spain and Portugal, and 6% in Germany and the Republic of Ireland (2007 data). Globally, wind power generation increased more than fivefold between 2000 and 2007.[1] The principle application of wind power is to generate electricity. Large scale wind farms are connected to electrical grids. Individual turbines can provide electricity to isolated locations. In the case of windmills, wind energy is used directly as mechanical energy for pumping water or grinding grain. Wind energy is plentiful, renewable, widely distributed, clean, and reduces greenhouse gas emissions when it displaces fossil-fuel-derived electricity. Therefore, it is considered by experts to be more environmentally friendly than many other energy sources. The intermittency of wind seldom creates problems when using wind power to supply a low proportion of total demand. Where wind is to be used for a moderate fraction of demand, additional costs for compensation of intermittency are considered to be modest.[3] How do residential wind turbines work?

A wind turbine, which is installed on top of a tall tower, collects kinetic energy from the wind and converts it to electricity that is compatible with a home’s electrical system.

In a normal residential application, a home is served simultaneously by the wind turbine and a local utility. If the wind speeds are below cut-in speed (7-10 mph) there will be no output from the turbine and all of the needed power is purchased from the utility. As wind speeds increase, turbine output increases and the amount of power purchased from the utility is proportionately decreased. When the turbine produces more power than the house needs, the extra electricity is sold to the utility. All of this is done automatically. There are no batteries in a modern residential wind system.  Made Wind Energy

Small wind systems for remote applications operate somewhat differently.

Will a small wind turbine save me money?

The wind turbine typically lowers your electricity bill by 50 to 90 percent. It is not uncommon for wind turbine owners with total-electric homes to have monthly utility bills of only $8 to $15 for nine months of the year. In northern parts of the country where less air conditioning is used the bills can be very low year-round. The amount of money a small wind turbine saves you in the long run will depend upon its cost, the amount of electricity you use, the average wind speed at your site, and other factors.

What size turbine would I need for my home?

Homes use approximately 9,400 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity per year (about 780 kWh per month). Depending upon the average wind speed in the area, a wind turbine rated in the range of 5 to 15 kilowatts would be required to make a significant contribution to meet this demand.

Will it help the environment if I install a wind turbine at my home?

Yes. Wind turbines produce no pollution and by using wind power you will be offsetting pollution that would have been generated by your utility company. Over its life, a small residential wind turbine can offset approximately 1.2 tons of air pollutants and 200 tons of greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide and other gases which cause climate change).

Don’t I have to take wind measurements for a year or more?

For most residential systems the cost of taking wind measurements is not justified. Wind resource data published by the U.S. Department of Energy is sufficient for an experienced evaluator to predict wind turbine performance. In very hilly or mountainous areas, however, it may be best to collect wind data before purchasing a system to ensure that your site is not in a sheltered area.

Do wind turbines make noise or interfere with TV reception?

Small wind turbines do make some noise, but not enough to be found objectionable by most people. A typical residential wind system makes less noise than the average washing machine. Wind turbines do not interfere with TV reception.

Monaco Yachts Attract Royalty and Multi-Millionaires

The super yacht industry has gone from strength to strength in recent years, and the Monaco Yacht Show has proved to be the natural home for their annual display to would be buyers.

Spotted among possible buyers was British Royal Prince Michael of Kent.

The world’s leading luxury yacht show in Monaco held 18-22 September is to pay for 55 wind turbines in New Zealand – enough to generate power for 45,000 homes – making the event ‘carbon neutral’.

Under the watchful eye of Prince Albert, the yacht show is part of Monaco’s new stance on global warming, and comes shortly after Prince Albert himself travelled to the North Pole in April to highlight the damage he believes global warming is having on the environment.

‘Since Prince Albert came to the throne last year’ commented one Monaco travel guide after the show, ‘Monaco has changed her policy from one of the few countries not to sign the Kyoto Protocol to not only signing it but taking a lead in the battle against global warming. Prince Albert has personally taken steps to show how concerned he is, and by setting the example of going to the North Pole has shown the leadership necessary to encourage Monaco companies to become environmentally friendly, and the Monaco Yacht Show is an example of this’.

The Monaco Yacht Show has bult a reputation over the years as the place for the wealthy to view potential purchases, and this year there will be nearly a hundred yachts on display to those able to afford it.

In total some 22,000 visitors attended with over 500 exhibitors from the yachting world exhibiting.

The mix of wealth and Monte Carlo also means that real estate agents in Monaco were on full alert. In previous years the Monaco Yacht Show has often proved more beneficial for the realtors than the Monaco Grand Prix.

The Monaco Grand Prix attracts tens of thousands of Formula 1 fans annually to the principality at the end of May, but with some Monte Carlo streets closed, showing property in Monaco can be more problematic than during the Yacht Show.

A Monte Carlo real estate agent says that the more relaxed atmosphere of the Yacht Show allows potential property buyers to view properties.

‘If someone is visiting Monaco for the Yacht Show and has several million Euros available, it’s a pretty safe assumption that those buyers will have a few million for a property too, and a luxury yacht and Monaco Real Estate appeal to the same type of buyer.’

Typical of Monaco Real Estate prices is a two bedroom two bathroom apartment in Seaside Plaza, close to where the Yacht Show is located, at 3,700,000 Euros.

Monaco Hotels

The emergence of the Yacht Show has helped the Monaco economy by drawing the world’s wealthy to the principality for four days in September.

Until recently the Monaco Grand Prix in May and the Monte Carlo Masters tennis the month before have been the two main events of the year which boost the occupancy levels of the hotels in Monaco.

With the Yacht Show in September filling the hotels at premium rates, it has proved to be a welcome addition to the calendar of events for both residents and businesses alike, and the Hotel de Paris Monte Carlo proved to be the scene of many deals being signed over the four days.

This year also saw the first Monaco Flower Show, which it is hoped will also be a tourist magnet in future years.

‘In the past Monaco has had the highlights of the Monaco Grand Prix and the tennis, with consistent numbers of visitors the rest of the year,’ say the Monaco travel guide, ‘but Monaco is becoming much more diverse in what it offers throughout the calendar year. The Yacht Show has been a success, and given a little time the Monaco Flower Show will appeal to a different type of tourist, and might be as popular as the Hampton Court and Chelsea Flower Shows are in the UK. Diversity is the key to sustained tourism, and Monaco is doing it very well.

Despite being the second smallest country in the world, Monaco has attracted many of the world’s top business and entertainment people to live there due to her income tax free status, and with Prince Albert at the helm it seems that the principality is beginning to punch above her weight in world politics as he takes the lead on environmental issues’, they add.

Notable First Year for Prince Albert of Monaco

While Prince Albert is preparing to mark the first year of his succession to the Principality of Monaco, a local destination guide http://www.yourmonaco.com suggests that the second smallest country in the world is in safe hands and can look forward to years of progressive economic and social policies that extend well beyond the borders of Monaco.

‘Prince Albert has changed his playboy image’, they say, ’since coming to power he has taken the initiative on environmental issues, for example in April he went to the North Pole to draw attention to his fellow world leaders that the environment should be top of their agenda, and he has made a concerted effort to put the environment on the Monaco map of issues that need addressing’.

The environment seems to be of particular concern to Prince Albert, and with this in mind the 2006 Monaco Yacht Show will be carbon neutral. The organisers will be paying for a variety of green projects in Europe and further afield, including enough wind turbines in New Zealand to generate power for 50,000 homes.

In two further steps earlier this year to increase Monaco’s influence in world affairs and to promote Prince Albert’s concern for the environment, the Monaco government announced that it would calculate GDP for the first time, enabling Monaco to meet the UN’s target of 0.7 per cent for developing countries, and Prince Albert himself founded a new foundation as ‘part of his personal commitment for the protection of the environment and for sustainable development’.

Prince Albert’s father, Prince Rainier who ruled Monaco for fifty years was known as the ‘builder prince’, as Monaco grew out of all recognition while he was in power, transforming the principality from a European backwater to Europe’s top tax haven and home to many of Europe’s top businessmen and sports stars.

Prince Albert has continued his father’s tradition, with plans recently announced for an island to be built off Monte Carlo which will increase the size of the world’s second smallest country. But bidders have been asked to plan the project with the environment in mind, as well as the Monaco Grand Prix. The possibilty exists that the Grand Prix circuit will be changed to encompass the new island – and with it more opportunities for overtaking.

Grand Prix de Monaco

Tradition and modernity have long been features of Monaco, and as well as a first class infrastructure, the Principality can boast one of the world’s top hotels in the Hotel de Paris Monaco.

Along with the banking and finance sectors that help Monaco’s economy to be one of Europe’s most successful, tourism also plays a major part, with many visitors making day trips from neighbouring France and Italy.

‘The Monaco Grand Prix plays a part of course’, comment YourMonaco, ‘but many tourists want to see what it is really like to be in Monte Carlo, the millionaire’s playground. Monaco hotels enjoy high occupation levels despite the day trippers though, as so many business people are in Monaco for two or three days’.

Property prices in Monaco are among the highest in the world, with one bedroom apartments after closing costs starting at around a million Euros.

It’s thought unlikely that the new island to be built off Monaco will reduce prices much overall despite the increase in the number of property units available as Monaco real estate is always in demand.

Tribune properties who specialise in Monaco real estate believe that most new apartments will be sold to investors off plan well in advance of any building work starting.

‘The problem with property in Monaco is not the lack of buyers’, they say, ‘but more the lack of good properties for buyers to choose from. Hopefully the new island will address that. Everyone in Monaco is aware of how important the environment is thanks to Prince Albert’s initiatives in pushing it up the political agenda, and any new developments will be low rise. With the good weather in Monaco expect to see plenty of solar panels on the roofs to make the buildings energy efficient’.

In his first year Prince Albert has successfully made the people of Monaco aware of global warming and taken steps to combat it, and for his second year and beyond he is likely to be campaigning just as hard at home and abroad on the issue he believes in so much.

How We Can All Help to Save our Planet Through the Use of Natural Energy Resources

With scientists predicting extreme changes to our global weather patterns over the next 50 to 100 years, it is time we took notice and began to take steps, in an attempt to reduce the effect of these extreme changes.

Our planet is very complex in geographical terms, and there are many aspects concerning our planet we do not understand yet. One of the most controversial claims of the late 20th century has been the theory of global warming.

Most scientists agree global warming is in existence as a result of the industrial revolution, yet a significant amount of sceptics are in existence. These sceptics believe global warming is a natural occurrence and the earth experiences different temperature gradients over millions of years. Either way, there is a significant amount of evidence which suggests our climate is set to get warmer.

If humans are the cause of this phenomenon (as over 90% of scientists believe). then we are more than likely too late in responding and will not be able to reverse the effects. We should now be thinking of ways to try and curve the effects of global warming.

The solution to global warming can only be effective if everyone joins in to fight it together. Scientists agree that if 100% of our energy could be natural energy, then we would have alot less to worry about. With coal, oil, gas and nuclear power stations dotted all over our earths land mass, we are from this ideology.

So what can an individual do for the environment? Well there are a number of methods where you are able to not only help the environment, but you are also able to save money in the long run and reduce your carbon footprint. Have an attempt at installing solar panels, wind turbines or even a geothermal power system to heat your water in your home.

So why not do some research on the available natural energy technologies available to you and see the most appropriate method of installation to your home.

2006 Sucess For Prince Albert Of Monaco In Year One
